Why Sealing your Paver Patio is like Waxing Your Car

Pavers  |  Hardscaping

Often the question is posed to us; Why should I seal my paver patio regularly? Aren't pavers supposed to hold up without sealer? The short answer is yes, pavers are very durable and made to last a long time. However, with regular maintenance and care they will remain nicer and hold their value longer, the same as if you regularly maintain your vehicle.

Waxing a CarWhen you purchase a new vehicle you know it's made to last a long time. But you still regularly change the oil and maintain it to keep it running smoothly. If you are concerned about the long term quality of the exterior of the car you will also regularly wash it and probably wax it every 6 months or so. Is this a necessary step to keep your car running? No. But you know it will pay off when your car still looks like new and doesn't have rust and scratches years down the road.

It's the same way with sealing a paver patio. Pavers are manufactured and engineered to last a long time, even during harsh weather. But sealing your paver patio every 3 years will help it continue to look as good as new many years down the road. Paver sealing helps to prevent erosion that happens over time, it keeps them cleaner and also helps to stabilize the joint sand to make your hardscape last even longer. So whether you currently have a paver surface or are planning to add one to your yard, you will definitely want to consider regularly sealing it to maintain its beauty and integrity for years to come!
